GRAND FORKS — Altru Health System has hired an Iowa man as its new executive vice president of operations and chief nursing officer.
Cory Geffre comes to Altru with 22 years of experience in health care leadership and business development, according to an Altru release sent to the Herald Friday afternoon. He most recently has served at a medical center in Ames, Iowa, and before that, he was vice president and chief nursing officer at Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen, S.D.
“I am thrilled to welcome Cory to our executive team and the nursing team at Altru,” CEO Todd Forkel said in the release. “Cory’s background in nursing, leadership and business development gives him a unique perspective that aligns compassionate care with a focus on growth and development. I am confident that Cory’s nursing leadership, business acumen and innovative thinking will have a significant impact on our organization and the care our patients receive.”
Said Geffre: “I have always been passionate about health care in the upper Midwest. I am excited to be joining an organization that is wholly committed to delivering high-quality health care in that region.”
Geffre earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master’s degree in management, strategy and leadership at Michigan State University. He has a background in business consulting, sales and business development.

He said that during the interview process at Altru, he found that staff and employees’ “passion for Altru was so contagious it became an easy decision for me to join the Altru team.”
